The Sky Is Doing Something Today: The Eclipse, the Lion’s Gate, and Your Practice

A Wider View piece — timely, for 12 August 2026

Today the sky is doing something rare. A total solar eclipse is sweeping across Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain — the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999. If you’re not in its narrow path, much of Europe, North Africa, and parts of North America will still watch the Moon take a visible bite out of the Sun this evening. (One practical note if you go looking up: never look directly at the Sun without proper eclipse glasses, partial phases included.)

It is also, today, the closing of the Lion’s Gate Portal — a rare window when the Sun, Sirius, and Earth move into alignment. Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, was known to the Ancient Egyptians as Sopdet, the goddess whose reappearance each year marked a sacred turning point in their calendar. For thousands of years, this alignment has been read as a doorway — a moment when the boundary between what’s hidden and what’s ready to be seen grows thin. This year, that doorway closes exactly as the Moon crosses the face of the Sun. Two thresholds, converging on the same day.

Traditions across the world have always treated moments like this — eclipses, alignments, the turning of a gate — as charged. Not decorative charged. Genuinely potent moments when intention lands differently than it does on an ordinary Tuesday.

Two Languages, One Experience

Here’s what’s remarkable: the ancient language of “alignment” and “portals” and the modern language of neuroscience are describing the same inner event from two different directions.

When you visualize something vividly — see it, feel it, believe it as if it’s already yours — your brain’s reticular activating system starts filtering the world differently, surfacing the people, opportunities, and details that match what you’ve rehearsed. Repeated visualization measurably reshapes neural pathways through neuroplasticity, the same mechanism that lets a pianist’s mental rehearsal build real skill before their hands ever touch the keys. What the mystics called “opening a portal,” the lab calls “priming the nervous system toward a new pattern.” Different centuries, different vocabulary, same underlying human capacity: a vividly held internal state changes what happens next.

A day like today — marked, shared, impossible to ignore — is exactly the kind of moment that capacity responds to most powerfully. The whole world’s attention bends toward the sky at once. That collective charge is real, whether you frame it as Sirian energy or as your own nervous system finally being given full permission to focus.

What This Looks Like in Practice

This is the same ground we’ve walked with Correspondence (as within, so without) and Vibration (nothing is fixed — everything, including you, is in motion). Today simply hands you the clearest possible moment to put both to work: a visible, sky-wide reminder that thresholds close and doors open, right when you sit down to do the inner work of manifestation yourself.

Try This

Today, as the portal closes and the eclipse crosses the sky, take ten minutes with True Me or Healthy Me. Before you begin, let yourself feel the weight of the date — not as superstition, but as permission:

Something in me is ready to close. Something in me is ready to become visible.

Sit with it. See it. Believe it as though it’s already yours. The sky rarely hands you a moment this clear — use it.

This is one thread in a much older tapestry, where ancient tradition and modern science keep arriving at the same truth from different directions. Next time, we’ll look at what quantum physics has to say about the observer’s role in reality — and how closely it echoes what mystics have described for centuries.
